EASY Iced Chai "latte"

This isn't a latte. I don't know why people call it that. I don't know why they call it "chai tea" either since chai means tea and implies milk tea. Anyways. This is easy. Super easy.

For 1/2 gallon of iced chai:

  • 4 cups water
  • 2 Tbsp loose leaf black tea
  • 1/2 to 1 cup sweetener/sugar I used a combo of splenda and honey
  • 4 cups milk/plant based milk, I used almond milk
  • Tea Masala to taste*, I used about 3/4 tsp
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract, or to taste

Add water and tea to medium sauce pot. Bring to a boil. Allow to sit for 5 minutes. Strain tea through a fine strainer into a pitcher. Add sweetener and spice mixture. Stir. Add milk of choice and vanilla. Refrigerate until cold. Serve over ice with a little heavy cream or non-dairy creamer stirred in for additional creaminess.

*Tea Masala is a pre-prepared spice mix used for spiced chai. I would suggest tasting your chai before adding more, you might like a lot more spice than I do, you might like less. If you like more cinnamon, or cardamom, or ginger, or vanilla, feel free to add more of those individual dried spices, if you have them, instead of just using the spice mix. A lot of pre-prepared chai is cardamom heavy so if you feel like something is missing, start there.
